A Table by the Window...A Book Review...

affiliate links included.  please read full disclosure here.

A Table by the Window, by Hillary Manton Lodge, is not a book I would probably have picked up on my own, but it IS a book that I was glad to get into.  It centers around main character Juliette, the youngest in a large and colorful family of French and Italian "foodies"--restaurant owners, gourmet chefs, and fantastic pastry makers.  Juliette is, at the opening of the story, a food journalist who is wondering where her life is going to take her, and mourning the loss of her beloved grandmother.

As the book continues, we follow along in Juliette's adventures:  an invitation to open a new restaurant with her brother, a mystery involving "treasures" found left behind in her grandmother's belongings, an illness in Juliette's extensive family, career decisions involving her journalism position, and a possible long-distance new romance.  All of these story lines are woven together in an entertaining novel that held my attention and sometimes made me laugh out loud.

Interspersed throughout the book are recipes from Juliette's own files--recipes that her grandmother created, or that Juliette whipped together, or old family favorites.  (No, I have not tried any of the recipes--but they look amazing!)

I enjoyed the story very much.  It was light, easy reading, and a fun way to pass the time.  If you would like to learn more about the book, you can check out the first chapter.
