Diary of a Real Payne: Church Camp Chaos...A Book Review by Firefly

This book is the second in a series of adventures of little EJ Payne.  You can read our review of the first one here.  Firefly loved the first book so very much--and read it through three times in the first three days that we had it!  She spent much of the time after reading it waiting and wondering about the next book in the series.

Luckily for her (and us), she only had to wait about four months--and then she had the chance to get her hands on Diary of a Real Payne:  Church Camp Chaos, by Annie Tipton.  This story picks up right where Diary of a Real Payne left off, and continues the adventures of E(mma) J(ean) Payne and her great big imagination!

Firefly's Review

In this book, EJ Payne goes to camp, solves mysteries, has a birthday, and gets annoyed by her little brother, Isaac.  Also, EJ notices strange things going on in her house.  Her parents start acting weird--crying while in a prayer circle, going to unexpected meetings, and bringing in new boxes of EJ's little baby toys.  On top of this, EJ's best friend, Macy, is going to move!

Can EJ figure out what's going on, AND, figure out how to stop her friend from moving?

This is a book of excitement and fun.  My favorite part is when EJ finally solves the mystery!  I also liked how she would look for clues through the whole book, and it was fun to try to spot the clues yourself.

EJ is really fun to read about.  She is really outgoing, and has a really big imagination--which is a big part of the book.

I already can't wait for the next one (September 2014), and I hope it will give a lot of information about what happens to EJ next!

Momma Again

I am loving how much Firefly enjoys these books, and reads them over and over again.  While she is reading, she will often share parts of them out loud with all of us, so we can laugh at EJ's adventures as well.  Like I mentioned in the first review, these are Christian-based books ("duh, Mom!  She goes to a Church Camp!" I was just told by my daughter...), which makes me feel good again about how much they are enjoyed in my home.

You can get your own copy of Diary of a Real Payne:  Church Camp Chaos for (currently) $4.99 from Barbour Publishing.  This 187-page book for pre-teens gets two definite thumbs up from us!
