Once upon a time there was a little family. It had a Mommy, a Daddy, and a little girl. It was a happy family.
Then, one December day, another little girl was born into that family.
And none of their lives were ever the same.
They gave that little girl the nickname of "Firefly", and she was NOTHING like that little family expected. She was a tiny, sweet little baby that grew into a tiny, sweet, whirling dervish of a toddler.
Little Firefly loved her Mommy, and Daddy, and big sister. She also loved to bite things. And kick things. And run into things. She loved soccer, which seemed to combine all of those things (except maybe biting!)
She loved to be silly. And she REALLY loved to eat!
But she was still really small.
Did I mention that she loved soccer?
On the rare occasions that she would sit still, she loved to have her big sister read to her. It didn't usually last very long.
She LOVED her Sit n' Spin! And that big red ball.
She also loved babies. ANY babies. Oh, yeah--and princess dresses!
And again, she loved to be silly!
Now that little Firefly is ten years old, and that little family has also added a baby boy. Some days, it seems like it's been much longer than ten years, because Firefly has kept them all on the run. She is an active, sometimes explosive, witty, sweet girl, who has taught her Mommy so very many things.
Her Mommy has learned about patience, medical procedures, God, flexibility, advocacy, friendship, and limitations from that one little Firefly.
Today, Firefly still loves to be silly. She still loves babies. She loves American Girl dolls, and her Granddaddy, and One Direction, and her friends, and dressing up (sometimes).
And she still really, really loves soccer!
We really love her, too!
**Firefly has Sensory Processing Disorder, which has been a lifelong struggle and journey for all of us. If you'd like to learn more about it, check out some of my Firefly Friday posts...
