Random Acts of Kindness--Birthday-Style!

My Turtle turned 13 last week.

13!

I can't even believe it!  (Well, on some, occasional, hormone-filled days I can believe it, but other than that...)

She is a beautiful, generous, sweet, and loyal lady, turning into an amazing young woman.  I am so proud of her and her choices and her sweet spirit!

We'd been talking about her birthday party for several weeks.  She had searched Pinterest boards, brainstormed, and gone back and forth several times.  What would be the best way to celebrate turning 13 in Turtle's world?

Sleepover?

Scavenger Hunt in the Mall?

Pizza and Movies?

Nope.

What she wanted, turned out, was a Random Acts of Kindness party.

Amazing, huh?

So that's what we did.  Thirteen Random Acts of Kindness for Turtle's 13th Birthday party...

1.  Making encouraging notes that we will put into random books at Barnes and Noble...

 2.  The cards we gave out with the $10 gift cards we bought at Barnes and Noble...

Filling our basket at the Dollar Store with goodies we would need...We also (3) left dollars hidden in the toy section for kiddos to find and buy a toy with...
 4.  Attaching fun notes to the 13 balloons and letting them go...

 5.  Free (take one) compliments going up on the community board...
A picture of the (6) stuffed animals we gave out to kiddos at the mall, (7) crayons and coloring books we donated to the children's hospital, and (8) movie candy we gave out in front of the movie theater...
 9.  Fabric we bought for the girls to make a no-sew blanket that we gave to a homeless ministry...
 10.   We filled Easter Eggs (not with candy) and hid them at a neighborhood park...
I don't have pictures of everything, but we also...

11.  Gave out pennies to kiddos who could throw them in a fountain and make a wish...

12.  Paid for a random meal in the food court of the mall...

and

13.  Left inspirational notes on Post-Its in a public restroom...

Did I mention how proud I was of my Turtle???

We had a great time, and were so blessed.  Both of the younger kiddos got to participate, and now Bug wants to do the same thing for his birthday!

It was an amazing thing to be a part of.  Who says teenagers are all about themselves?  I got to spend several hours with five of them that were filled with the joy of giving, and learned some valuable lessons myself (but that's a story for another time...)

For now, let me just say, Happy 13th, Turtle!  I love you so very much!
